Diversifying into new technology
Atkinson Electrical (South East) Limited is a family-based business in the Medway region of Kent in south east England. Their traditional business has been domestic and business electrical installations, working with domestic customers as well as local housing associations.
More recently, the business has identified solar panel installation as a growing opportunity, and decided to take the business a new direction while at the same time retaining the core electrical work which has served them well over many years.
New direction
As part of the new direction, they realised that a critical element of publicising their new interests would be their on-line presence. Up to now business had been generated by traditional methods – networking, word of mouth, appoaching new customer direct – but now something different was required.
Technical features
Search engine visibility, mobile phone capability and a professional-looking design were important items on their wish-list. And all that on a tight budget.
Needless to say, Nick Prior Designs was able to help Atkinsons with everything on their list. We tried a couple of designs out before settling on the final look and feel, and we developed some search engine optimisation tactics to ensure the new site stood a good chance of climbing up the search engine results for a business in a very competitve marketplace in a vry competitive area.
Search engine visibility
Atkinson Electrical has already done some homework on the phrases prospective customers might use to find Solar Panels on the internet. The new website provided places to include these key words to make it stand out from the rest. Images on the site all have titles and search engine friendly alternative descriptions.
Atkinsons are working on the inbound and outbound links on their site. They are also writing new articles in their blog which over time will build up all the important phrases that help p[eople find them when they go searching for solar panels in Kent.
Mobile phone capability
These days just having a website isn't enough. You have to make sure you can help people find you whatever technological gadget they choose to use for their on-line activities. And the latest must-have gadget is the internet enabled mobile phone (or tablet, or iPad, or Android phone - hte list goes on!)
Atkinson Electrical were keen that any website they developed would work on both a computer and on a mobile device. What's more, they only wanted to develop one website, and write articles for it just the once.
Nick Prior Designs had just the answer. We implemented WordPress with one of the latest additions to its capability and now anything that appears on a compuiter screen from the website can also appear on a mobile device in a format that make sense. No more scrolling round an enormous screen on a tiny phone - it all makes sense.
